History & Mission
The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle (COT) began as St. Stephen’s Chamber Orchestra in 1982, under the direction of violist George Taylor. Since becoming a stand-alone nonprofit in 1988, The COT has grown and evolved into one of the finest professional ensembles in the Southeast.
Today, The COT’s mission is 1) to present work of exceptional quality, 2) to build community through collaborations with other arts organizations and persons, and 3) to provide performance and educational opportunities to young musicians. The COT believes that musical experiences should be accessible to all and works to bring live music into schools, retirement communities, and public spaces.
